"There's no life without music." Clara Wieck Schumann lived and fought for music - from a musical prodigy in the mid-19th century, she became the greatest pianist of her time. In the new chamber opera Clara, the American composer Victoria Bond (*1945) tells of this powerful artist in all her facets: the musical drills of her father, her debut as a Wunderkind, the imaginative play with Robert Schumann, the fight for love and the recognition of the father, the balance between art and family in the face of Robert's increasing anxiety disorders, as well as the supportive friendship with Johannes Brahms.
The young women's team around director Carmen C. Kruse not only sheds light on Clara Schumann's life, but also on the central questions of being an artist in the context of social and personal expectations. Following the idea of romanticism, the seven historical figures meet in a soul and nature landscape that offers everyone the same conditions for personal and artistic development, but in which they all position themselves differently through their character traits.
